WE'LL MEET AGAIN

A unique and colourful event encompassing 'Wings, wheels and Music' took place in the beautiful setting of Glynde Place on the 28th May. The splendid air show consisting of two Spitfires and no less than 17 other historic aircraft was followed by an outdoor concert

provided by the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir and the English National Orchestra. Over 8,000 people attended the event that included Dame Vera Lynn. The only downside to the day was that it was rather cold. Many thanks to Adrian Ball for arranging the admission for our club.

CHARITY CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE RUN

On Sunday the 24th April the Club held its 8th Motorcycle run with a record number of entrants. Once again the weather was kind to us and we kept warm and dry throughout the event. In the context of a rather wet weekend this was very fortunate.

Presentation of prizes by the Deputy Mayor and District Governor

Resuscitation

Today's speaker ( 19th April ) was Dr Peter Nash a recently retired consultant who gave a first class presentation on resuscitation. See the May bulletin for a full review of his talk. RIBI's preferred project for the current year is of course 'Community first Responders' and Peter's talk left no doubt about how vital this project is. Remember pre- hospital only 5% will survive a heart attack but 85% have the potential to survive.

RIBI Conference Manchester

We all meet up for a pre-conference meal at our hotel. Excited at the prospect of a good conference full of fun and fellowship. Did it live up to our expectations. See the answer in the May bulletin.

LIMITED EDITIONS

Today (15th March 2005) we had three speakers from Limited Editions who are part of the Richmond Fellowship, a charity that has been providing assistance to those with mental health problems for more than 40 years.

They believe that work is the best route to feeling good about yourself. They want their clients to discover their abilities and unleash their creativity. They can help to develop skills and boost confidence.

They don't provide therapy or analysis at Limited Editions, but they do have a great deal of experience of mental health issues and the problems and fears that people can face when trying to get into work.  Their aim is to get their clients working and independent where possible.

Today Rachel, who is a client, overcame her anxiety challenges to talk to the club as someone who has benefited from Limited Editions and she was excellent. Rosie and Pauline outlined the work of Limited Editions and the problems it faces with a lack of money , public awareness and the need to find supportive employers. If you would like to find out more contact Limited Editions on 01273 571373.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW HOME

We now meet every Tuesday at the Sussex County Cricket Ground Hove, 12.30 for 1pm. Except on fifth Tuesdays when we meet in the evening.

                                                                                                            Great View

                      `

It was truly a great Rotarian occasion with the joint theme of President’s Night and Centenary Celebrations.

The Dyke Golf Club done us proud and every one commented on the good quality of the food. (continued)

During the meal President Ken took drinks with various groups and after the meal we were royally entertained by, firstly, Ian Collington who presented a very amusing film entitled "The World Wide Web" and this was follows by a song from Bob Hinton (reproduced above) which involved participation by everyone present.

During the evening there were contributions from District Governor Peter Nightingale (The Centenary Toast), Bob Mulholland (Toast to our guests) and Inner Wheel President Brenda Couch (The response on behalf of the guests)

DG Peter also gave a short talk entitled "A Century of Service Above Self"

In between all these various contributions, President Ken also had the very pleasant task of awarding a Paul Harris Fellowship to Rotarian Jenny Saunders of Brighton and Hove Breakfast Club. The award was for her services to charity, these services being well known to all members of our Club.

A really terrific night, thoroughly enjoyed by all present.

I spoke afterwards to Terry Crimp, President of Brighton Rotary Club, and he said he most impressed with the presentation by Ian Collington, and also said what a great night it had been.

ROTARY TSUNAMI DISASTER COLLECTION DAYs

(Final figure £7,500 fantastic)

(Collection now stands at over £7,000 but final figure will not be known until mid-day tomorrow )  20:30  09/01/05

( Well done to all Rotarians who took part in today's collection. On a bitterly cold day we collected at the rate of over £700 per hour or £5,051.)  20:10 08/01/05

The six clubs in Brighton and Hove will join forces on the 8th and 9th January to collect money in Brighton Town Centre in aid of RIBI Disaster Relief Fund for South East Asia.

Please visit this site on a regular basis for any last minute instructions etc

( The arrangements have now been finalised and I understand that you are aware of the arrangements that will be of concern to you. If you are unclear or need clarification on any matter please phone or E-Mail me.

Let us hope that the weather is kind to us and the people of Brighton & Hove are as generous as they have been so far.

We can but try to help the survivors of the Tsunmai Disaster rebuild and live their lives to the full because that is what those who sadly died would have wanted us to do.

IPP Howard Attree)  09:30 07/01/05

I have received phone calls from some members who did  not complete the board on Tuesday but  want to help collect on either Saturday or Sunday. This will not be a problem just turn up as and when   throughout the weekend. The meeting point is just outside Churchill Square where you will see some banners and A boards.

DG's OFFICIAL VISIT

A brief history of the Housing Association was given with news of £40,000 received that morning from Ms Foreman and also confirmation of funds from The Alex Clarke Club of £70,000-£80,000. Deposits were also being taken for 29, Sackville Road even before building works started.

The District Governor was impressed with this news saying that he was not aware of our "Jewel in the Crown" of the Rotary Club of Hove, The Housing Association, and he mentioned the Jewel in the Crown of Polio Plus in Rotary and the centennial celebrations taking part in District, RIBI, and Worldwide.

BEETLE MANIA HITS MANOR

The annual Beetle Drive was held at Hangleton Manor last night much to the amusement of the regulars. Once again thanks must go to Jenny Saunders for hosting the event in aid of the Pink Dolphin Appeal.

The winner 'mind the gap' Ian with a magnificent score of 142 was too exhausted to give an interview afterwards but his prize should enable him to pull a little cracker over the Christmas hols.

Ian also won the prize for drawing the best beetles. Where did he find the time?   or can men multitask ?
