TENTH ENGINEERIUM RUN WAS THE BIGGEST EVER

The Rotary Club of Hove’s 10th Engineerium Classic Motorcycle Run on Sunday 29th April 2007 was a roaring success with the highest ever number of participants and record amounts raised for charity. The organisers had been concerned that the 2007 Run might be affected by the long term closure for renovation of the event’s traditional base of the British Engineerium. They needn’t have worried! Nearby Blatchington Mill School was happy to host the event and the large grounds proved to be ideal. There was the attractive free bonus that entrants could visit the historic West Blatchington Windmill, which was specially opened for the event. Come the day, the weather was perfect and the riders turned up in force.

The event was set off by Mike Holland, the local businessman who has bought the British Engineerium with a view to developing and considerably expanding the historic attraction. Well over three hundred machines took part in the Run and, with only a few wrong turns and few breakdowns, riders were back in time to tuck into shepherd’s pie and sample Sussex real ale.

The Rotary Club was delighted to welcome back as judges chronometer expert David Woods and his wife Pauline together with the Engineerium’s founder Dr Jonathan Minns. (The awards are shown together with the photos of the winners elsewhere on this website.) (OR COULD THE NAMES AND PICS BE PUT IN HERE?) The Deputy Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Bob Carden presented the trophies.

This year the Rotary Club of Hove nominated three charities for particular support: Aquabox, Spinal Research and a new local project Whoopsadaisy

Rotary Clubs fill and send Aquaboxes to disaster areas to provide water purification and emergency supplies. Spinal Research is the UK charity behind important research and development for treatment of injuries which have previously seemed to be incurable. Whoopsadaisy is an initiative to provide special educational and other support for disabled children in the Brighton & Hove area during school holidays. Over £6,000 was raised by the event and the organisers would like to thank all those who took part and helped in a variety of ways to make the Tenth Engineerium Classic Motorcycle Run a memorable success.
