Rotary Club of Hove Council Meeting 6th September 2010

A joint Brighton & Hove clubs meeting/meal will be held at the Dyke Golf Club on March 3rd next year. Details still to come, after the presidents meet in October. Adrian Ball kindly agreed to help with liaison.

The Speakers programme is filling up well. David Henderson will be giving more advance publicity through the bulletin and web site to encourage attendance.

In the Club diary there will be efforts to maintain the list of members to look after visitors. With Friends of Rotary due to begin, it will be more important to have someone ready to greet newcomers.

In the Social diary the next walk arranged by Ken Jones will be on 29th September. Members will be encouraged to offer to lead future walks. Three darts teams and a quiz team have been entered in this year’s Rotary competitions. The visit to the Gyles Brandreth show in Worthing was cancelled due to lack of support.

The Friends of Rotary forms are ready. It was agreed that the person nominating a Friend would make the first approach. Mike Nettell will maintain the database of Friends to make sure that the same person is not asked by more than one Rotarian. Mike is attending a District seminar on membership next month. Chris Heath and Paul Beaken will support Mike with the project.

Christmas Collections - Chris has written to Tesco’s and Sainsbury about Christmas collections. It is hoped that, with new Friends joining, manning the collection points will become easier.

The 2011 Visit to Beaune - details will sought from President Bernard Roy during the forthcoming visit to Evreux by Peter, Yveline and Ian.

Evreux/Hove Youth Exchanges – it was agreed that the Evreux proposal for holiday exchanges of disadvantaged youngsters was not feasible. Ian to tell Evreux.

Council Meetings will now be on the 4th Monday of each month, provided that the Windmill meeting room is available. There will be no meeting in December.
